  • Dark Souls 3

The Dark Souls games are notoriously difficult, and the third (and final?) Entry does not disappoint. Dark Souls III recalls the methodical combat and world-building drip of the first two games, once again challenging you with building a character and working through a variety of monsters, ranging from soldiers undead to more size of enemies.

Of course, it would not be a game of souls if these enemies did not kill you again, and again and again, and before long you will learn to fear even the most punished enemies – nothing will kill you faster than on – trust. The key is rather to learn the meticulous rhythms of the game, perfecting the timing of each attack along the way. Dark Souls III is cruel, but never unfair, and there is an almost Zen-like process of repetition and improvement for those who engage in the game.

  • Rocket League

Rocket League seems pretty simple: you control a rocket-propelled car in a huge football field, and must use every means necessary to get the giant ball into the goal of the opposing team. Cars can double jump in the air, and there is a steep learning curve before getting the shot to actually hit the ball, let alone send it in the right direction. But once you do it, it’s immensely satisfying, and in a short time you’ll be deep in Rocket League tactics.

Matches range from 1v1 to 4v4, and the last five minutes each, with the potential for overtime. This means that the matches are long enough to feel substantial and dramatic, but short enough to guarantee that “just one more game” will feel each time.

Cars have a lot of visual customization options, so you can firmly place your own stamp on the game when you head to the online game, which gets amazingly competitive. There are also unlocked items at the end of games, and the more points you score, the faster you will progress in your online leader board.
