M. M. Alam The hero of September 1965 war passed away in Karachi on Monday 18th March 2013. He was suffering from lungs problem. He was 78 years .
Squadron Leader Muhammad Mahmoud Alam, who was later promoted to the rank of Air Commodore, was awarded the Sitara-e-Jurrat for his achievements in 1965 war, Radio Pakistan reported.
While posted in Sargodha, he had downed nine Indian fighters in air-to-air combat, including six Hawker Hunter fighters. In one mission on 7th September 1965, he downed 5 Indian aircraft in less than a minute.
Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt has expressed deep grief over the demise of M. M. Alam.
